Maxi Skirts: My Summer Remedy

Maxi Skirts: My Summer Remedy

I have a love and hate relationship with summer. I enjoy the sunny weather that allows me to dress down and comfortable. Chiffon tops, cotton tees and maxi dresses are all the definition of comfort during this time of year. I live in the sunny state (Florida) where summer seems to be present all year round, but my style changes with the season even when the weather may not totally match. When the month of July emerged, I took a peak in my closet and realized how limited my options were. I had so many tops yet there was just jeans to wear with them.

Lately, summer had me wanting to be free and skirts seem to be the best bet. However, I had zero to none in my closet. A few years ago I wore skirts more often, but my disdain for my chubby legs left me avoiding them. I do have tons of maxi dresses but I was tired of recycling them.

One day, on a random trip to Walmart, I discovered the answer to my prayers—maxi skirts! Many may think maxi skirts are long and frumpy, but the best part is that maxi skirts are usually thin airy cotton fabrics which allow for much more breeziness than the average pair of jeans. The best part was that I could transition from summer to fall with these skirts since they light and perfect for any weather.  I took the liberty to buy them in three colors. I must say they ignited the love I have for skirts and also sparked my creativity. It was a nice personal style challenge to come up with different ways to wear them without being redundant. My experience led me to these three style tips for maxi skirts.

1. Pair them with a classic basic tee or textured crop top.

2. Put a knot in your favorite button down.

3. Throw on your favorite tunic or cami and add a funky belt.

4. Layer with a light jean jacket and your favorite scarf.
